カペルとの別離

ココ・シャネルが順調なキャリアを築く一方で、カペルとの関係は終わりを迎えようとしていました。

カペルは野心が強く、身分の高い女性と結婚することを望んでいたのです。

ココは、カペルとの関係で、またも自分の低い身分を思い知らされました。

カペルが結婚したのは、イギリスの上院議員の娘です。

しかしこれはあくまで、より高い地位に就くための結婚。

結局、カペルもココを忘れることができませんでした。

カペルの結婚後、ココもカペルときっぱり決別することができず、二人はパリ近郊にある家を借りて暮らすことにしました。

この関係は、決して以前のように幸せなものではありません。

カペルはすぐに妻にうんざりするようになり、ココも愛人という立場に満足できませんでした。

しかし、二人は心から愛し合っていて、互いに離れられなかったのです。

そんなある日、ココの元に訃報が届きます。

1919年のことです。

カペルがフランス南部の都市、コート・タジュールへ車を飛ばしている際に、交通事故死したのです。

ココは事故現場に駆け付けましたが、遺体との対面はできませんでした。

彼女は、悲しみのどん底に突き落とされ、部屋を黒いカーテンで締め切り、暫く絶望感の中で引きこもりました。

後にポーランド人の友人、ミシア・ゴドブスカが彼女を家から連れ出すまで、ひたすら悲しみに打ちひしがれた日々を送ります。

Break Up with Capel

While Coco Chanel succeeded in her business, the relationship with Capel was about to end.

Capel was ambitious and wanted to marry a woman in a high position.

Chanel was reminded again that she is from a lower class through the relationship with Capel.

The woman whom Capel got married with is the daughter of a British senator.

But this marriage is just a chance for him to get a higher position.

Eventually, Capel also could not forget Chanel.

After Capel's marriage, Chanel could not break up with Capel completely, and then they decided to rent a house near Paris to live together.

They did not feel so happy as they had felt before.

Capel soon got tired of his wife and Chanel was also not satisfied with the relationship as his mistress.

However, they loved each other deeply and could not separate from each other.

One day, Chanel received the sad news in 1919.

When Capel drived to Cote d'Azur in the southern part of France, he was killed in an automobile accident.

Chanel rushed to the scene of the accident, but could not see the dead body.

She was overwhelmed by grief, closed the room with a black curtain, and shut herself up in her house in despair for a while.

Later, she spent her days, being prostrate with grief until a Polish friend, Misia Godebska, took her out from the house.
