クラウディア・シファー（Claudia Schiffer, 1970年8月25日～）
クラウディア・シファーほど、すぐにスターダムにのし上がったモデルも珍しいかも知れません。
彼女はドイツ出身のモデルで、90年代のスーパーモデルブームを牽引したビッグスターの一人です。
弁護士の由緒正しい家に生まれ育った彼女は、地元のナイトクラブでスカウトされるまで、弁護士になりたいと思っていました。
しかし、スカウトされた後にパリに移住し、本格的にモデル業を開始すると、すぐに売れっ子モデルになりました。
ブロンドでブルーの瞳、そしてグラマラスな体を持ち、まるでバービー人形のような容姿をしているクラウディアに多くの男性が熱狂しました。
カール・ラガーフェルドに気に入られるまでにもそう長い時間はかからず、1987年にデビューすると同時にすぐにシャネルとの専属契約を交わしました。
同じドイツ人であるカールの仕事を彼女は理解し、シャネルの素晴らしい広告塔になったのです。
また、1989年に登場した「Guess?」の広告では、フランスのアイコン、ブリジット・バルドーにそっくりな容姿で話題になり、世界的な知名度を獲得しました。
クラウディアとシャネルの関係はそれから20年以上続いていて、2008年にはクルーズライン、そして2011年にはアイウェアの広告に登場しています。
現在はファッション誌を中心にモデル業を続ける傍ら、ニットデザイナーとしても活躍しています。

Claudia Schiffer might be an unusual model who immediately rise to stardom.
She is a German model and one of the big stars who led the 90's supermodel boom.
She was born and raised in a honorable family of a lawyer. She originally aspired to become a lawyer until she was discovered by a scout at a local nightclub.
However, she moved to Paris after she was spotted by a scout and when she started modeling in earnest, she immediately became a popular model.
Plenty of men were enthusiastic about Schiffer who has a blonde, blue eyes, and a glamorous body and looks like a Barbie doll.
It did not take so long before Schiffer was selected by Karl Lagerfeld. Once she made her debut in 1987, she signed an exclusive modeling contract with Chanel.
She understood the work of Lagerfeld as both of them are from Germany and became a great spokesmodel for Chanel.
Also, she starred in campaigns for Guess? in 1989 and it became a news as she was very similar to the French icon, Brigitte Bardot, which made her gain popularity internationally.
The relationship between Schiffer and Chanel has continued for more than 20 years. Schiffer has appeared in campaigns for the Cruise Line in 2008 and the Eyewear in 2011.
Currently while she has kept modeling mainly on fashion magazines, she has worked as a knit designer.
