芸術家との親交

ポーランド出身で、父親は彫刻家でした。

ミシアは悲しみに暮れるココを家から連れ出し、多くの芸術家に合わせました。

このことが、ココとパリを拠点にする芸術家たちとの交流のきっかけになり、そのうちの何人かはココの愛人になりました。

ココは既に成功したファッションデザイナー。

一方、ココが交流していた当時の芸術家は、後に名を馳せるようになるものの、ココと知り合った時点では無名に等しくお金も持っていない者も多くいました。

ココのこの時の交友関係は、作家のジャン・コクトー、音楽家のストラヴィンスキーやラヴェル、画家のパブロ・ピカソやサルヴァドーレ・ダリ、それにロシアから亡命してきたロシア貴族など、国籍を超えたグローバルなものでした。

特にココはロシア貴族との親交の中から多くのインスピレーションを得て、毛皮のコートなどを作成し、ロシアンテイストを取り入れたデザインを多く手がけました。

ココにとって、そのほかの芸術家もまた、彼女に新しい発想を与えてくれる盟友でした。

彼らのおかげで、ココは前進し続けることができたのです。

そして、ココは彼らのパトロンとなりました。
