アメリカ進出とポール・イリブ

1930年、ココ・シャネルはアメリカに渡ります。

これは、映画制作会社のサミュエル・ゴールドウィンの計らいで、ハリウッド映画での衣装及びスターたちの普段着をプロデュースするためのものです。

彼女は、アメリカ行きに乗り気だったわけではありません。

しかし、気分転換にやってみよう、という軽い気持ちでオファーを引き受けました。

その時、ココはまたしても恋に落ちます。

過去にポール・ポワレとも仕事をしており、フランスのファッションに精通している面もありましたが、社会に対する皮肉を込めた風刺画家として知られていたので、ある意味危険な人物でもありました。

彼との付き合いによって、彼女自身が政治的問題に巻き込まれる危険があったのです。

それでもココは、彼を深く愛するようになり、妻を持つ彼ともいつしか公然と外出するようになります。

イリブは、反ユダヤ思想で、ナチスドイツを賞賛していました。

そして、自分の思想を何のためらいもなく公にしていました。

ココは、やがてそれに感化されていき、後に彼女自身も対独協力に力を注ぐようになります。

しかし、イリブは1935年、テニスをしている時に心臓発作を起こし、急死します。

ココは、アーサー・カペルに次いで、またも「死」という形で最愛の人と別れを告げなければならなくなりました。

Make an Advance into the United States and Paul Iribe

In 1930, Coco Chanel went to the United States.

At the personal request of Samuel Goldwyn in a movie production company, Chanel went to Hollywood to create casual wears and costumes for the leading stars of the silver screen.

She did not want to go to the United States.
