エステラ・ウォーレン（Estella Warren, 1978年12月23日～）

元シンクロナイズド・スイミングの選手だったという異色のキャリアを持つエステラ・ウォーレンは、2000年代にシャネルNo.5の顔になったモデルで、カナダ出身です。

それまでNo.5の広告を飾ってきたカトリーヌ・ドヌーヴやキャロル・ブーケのような落ち着いたエレガンスとは正反対なキャラクターで、彼女のルックスはセクシーさを前面に出したタイプです。

このイメージチェンジは、シャネルの中では大きかったと思います。

エステラは、シンクロナイズドスイミングでカナダ・チャンピオンになり、1996年のアトランタ五輪でも有力な選手と言われていました。

しかし、1994年にモデルエージェントにスカウトされ、結局そちらのキャリアを優先しました。

水泳で鍛えた素晴らしい肉体美を持つ彼女は、主に水着やランジェリーの広告で活躍。

アメリカでトップモデルだけが誌面を飾る「スポーツ・イラストレート」や「ヴィクトリアズ・シークレット」のモデルに選ばれ、2000年には「マキシム誌」が選ぶ最もセクシーな女性に選ばれました。

エステラ版No.5の広告を撮影したのは、映画「レオン」や「タクシー」でお馴染のリュック・ベッソンです。

CMはやはりそれまでのイメージと違い、カラフルでスピードに溢れた仕上がりになっています。

シャネルの新しい挑戦ともいえるエステラの起用は当時、衝撃的なものだったのではないでしょうか。

Estella Warren became a Canadian national champion in synchronized swimming and had the chance to move on to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

However, Warren was discovered by the owner of model agent in 1994 and she later chose a career as a model.

She mainly worked for the advertising campaigns for swimwear and lingerie as she has a beautiful body trained by swimming.

Warren has appeared in Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret that only top models can appear on in the United States. And she was named Maxim Magazine's Hottest Woman in 2000.

She worked for the Chanel No. 5 campaign with director Luc Besson, who produced famous movies, including the Taxi ans Leon.

Her commercial is colorful and speedy, which is different from previous images.

Chanel's challenge to produce a new look with Estela Warren must be a surprise at that time.
